What is Chiropractic, and How Does it Work?

Chiropractic is a straight forward method of adjusting the bones of your body to improve the alignment of your skeleton, and through this process help the nervous system to work more efficiently. The purpose of chiropractic care is to realign and rebalance your body to relieve pain and discomfort, and increase mobility.

A misalignment of the joints can occur for many reasons; some of the most common are incorrect lifting, car or sporting accidents, falls, stress, and poor posture. This can lead to pain, numbness, pins and needles, or restricted mobility.

The McTimoney method of chiropractic used in our clinic was developed by the late John McTimoney over 50 years ago. It is well known for being a precise and gentle whole body approach to chiropractic care. The gentle nature of the McTimoney method makes it especially suitable for people of all ages.

Can Chiropractic Help You?

The following conditions can benefit from chiropractic care:

  • Back, neck and shoulder pain
  • Pain, discomfort and stiffness in joints
  • Migraine
  • Muscular aches
  • Sports injuries
  • Arthritic pain
  • Hip, knee and ankle pain
  • Better overall function of muscles, organs and glands
  • Improved coordination and strength

Chiropractic is a natural and conservative form of health care, offering an alternative to many conditions to medication and surgery.

The principal treatment is joint adjustment or manipulation and we are trained in many different techniques, which enables us to select a treatment method that is suitable for you, making the treatment safe and effective for all ages.

But the treatment does not only involve spinal manipulation, far from it. Management also includes:

  • rehabilitative exercises
  • the use of physical therapies
  • diet and nutrition

To help make our services affordable for everyone we have many different options available.

First appointment: consultation and treatment - £40

Up on your first visit to the clinic we like to spend some time getting to know you. This will include an informal chat to find out some information on your current and past activities, a personal history and your reason for visiting the clinic. We will then run through a physical examination to get a good overview of how your body is functioning. These tests will help us get an over all view of your health and help us with diagnosis. We will then explain our findings, helping you to understand what is causing your symptoms. Once we have explained everything we will then offer the first treatment.

Following treatments - £40

On our follow up appointment we will discuss how you have progressed since our last appointment, find out how your symptoms have changed and then carry out the next treatment. On these sessions we will also provide advice on ways of complimenting treatment, all of which are tailored to your needs. This advice includes specific stretches, targeted strengthening exercises, dietary advice, posture correction strategies and pain management programs.
